If you’ve been planning a wedding and researching ideas to add a little personal flavor to your day over the past year and a half, you may have noticed some trends rolling through the blogs, articles, magazines, and photography websites, numero uno being fake moustaches. Not sure exactly why these little props caught on in such a big way, but they are funny and charming. It tends to help people loosen up a little, which we appreciate. Who doesn’t love a shot of grandma with a handlebar stache or a baby with two huge bushy eyebrows? So the key to these little quirks is personalized. Some of our recent weddings have had a lot of great ideas, from vintage mismatched glassware, jars of local honey, making their own wine, making their own bouquets from wildflowers, and ironic paper glasses to name a few. This last little item was from a very recent wedding and the groom is a talented graphic artist that designs all kinds of custom screen print items. He currently is offering the paper glasses at his little online boutique BarrelHouse. If you haven’t heard of Etsy before – it’s one of Janelle’s favorite places in the online animal kingdom – there are tons of great ideas and items to peruse there. You can check out Brandon’s work by clicking the image and I’m sure if you have your own brilliant idea, he would love to work with you on it.

I’ll be honest I love to plan parties. I think it goes back to college when my roommates and I loved to throw parties or actually now that I really think of it, we only planned one real party– but it was a winter gala complete with sparkly silver and blue paper, mini quiches and hundreds of hand cut and glittered snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. Since Shane and I attend dozens of parties throughout the summer I can’t help but notice all the details and wish (just a little) to be in on the action. So when my good friend Sarah found out she was expecting of course the wheels in my head started turning for a shower. I procrastinated a little too long, but I think it all came together in the end. Couldn’t have done it without my fabulous co-host Samantha, my fabulous mom, and of course my two photo buddies Sarah Hendsbee and Anna McClary! Thanks girls! Without further ado what you’ve been waiting for some pics!!! Thank you to all the ladies who came out and the after party guests (cory, arol, julie) who even made some onesies!

Clockwise from top left, we served fruit tea recipe courtesy of my favorite college professor's wife, cheesestraws from Smitten Kitchen, a tiny snack table with cheesestraws & dipped pretzel, fruit kabobs, hummus, and Samantha's yummy meatballs!

Raindrops from the photobooth, the dining room set up and ready to go, and the craft table.

Instead of party games we opted for an activity. I love the little hand decorated onesies that people sell on etsy and figured we could make them ourselves. I made a set before for a friend's little boy--- multicolored ties! The girls did an amazing job with their creations! Charis will be well equipped with onesies for months to come!

Samantha my fabulous co-host made the sweetest little onesie cookie party favors that were just as yummy as they were cute!

I thought it appropriate to have a photobooth at the shower being a photographer and all. I dye cut hundreds of little raindrops and stiched them together with the help of Sam, Sarah and Anna. Anna helped hang each strand! We couldn't have pulled it off without their help! I was kind of going for an anthropolgie inspired photobooth-- they always have those amazing window displays. The inspiration for this one was their thousands of paper chains in the window which I loved and thought we could create a similar effect only with a paper shower!

I admit it…. I love blogs, craft projects, vintage, and creativity! I always have a list of craft projects, home decorating ideas and party ideas floating around in my head. While working on plans for a baby shower I’m throwing for one of my friends which will be incorporating some product from from one of my favorite fabric designers, Amy Butler, I discovered her new line of rugs. I’ve known about Amy’s fabrics and books for a long time, but now she’s introduced these handcrafted rugs and they are stunning! I think her combination of vintage, modern, and it makes me proud to say mid-western charm is brilliant. So I thought I would share my excitement on the blog. Wouldn’t one of these rugs just brighten up any space?

Amy Butler's New line of handcrafted rugs in lacework, acanthus and coventry

Her fabric and paper lines are also great for adding sweet touches to weddings, parties or just everyday life. Just think of all the project you can come up with from invitations to garland to party favors! The possibilities are nearly endless, but I’ll be sure to post later about how I use some of her designs at the baby shower!

Hello friends and welcome to the new blog! We are so excited to not only be launching this new blog with way bigger, way yummier photos, but also to be revamping just a tad. We plan to use the blog to share our newest images with you, but also to help inspire you in creative daily living, wedding planning, love and life! I have several blogs that I stalk and have to be honest in the small amount of free time that we do have I find myself accumulating a myriad of projects that I plan to get to one of these days. So for our first post here on the new blog I thought I’d share a Valentines Day idea from Twig & Thistle.

Something like this could be easily adapted to be used for a wedding, baby shower, birthday party, but with Valentine’s Day coming up…. who doesn’t wish they were still in elementary school with a bag full of chocolate treats and paper valentines that make your heart flutter? Why not try this baking/craft project out, pair it with a sweet little note for your loved one and remember all the bliss of young love!
